Make a note to self: keep kids safe A worn rubber belt from an engine hung on each of the faucets in the barn and outbuildings at my late Uncle Eddie Probst’s farm.
When he turned on the water to fill the water tank for his cattle, he also hung the belt around his neck.
That reminded him to go back and turn off the faucet a half hour later when the tank had filled.
Other folks have various ways to jog their memories: a clothespin snapped to a pocket as a reminder to empty the washing machine or dryer; a timer to call them to the oven when a roast is done; a rubber band around a wrist to remember to ... Read more...

Cash for Trash Some of the following is from an article by Paul Krugman from the Times Digest. It is really the only type of news we get here at the South Pole on a day to day basis with out going on the web. And half the time not working right.
Reading about the $700 Billion bailout. And what I can understand from what I read about it. Are we the tax payers of America just to give a check to someone named Henry Paulson with out any checks or balances to bail out financial institutes? Just because their ones who got greedy and made bad decision on lending money. Oh sorry that is their right!!! Give me a brake. Are we to give them the money and get no return on it? If the Government is going to provide capital to financial firms. Aren’t we the tax payer who provides capital entitled to a share in ownership so that all gains if the rescue plans work don’t go to the people who made the mess in the first place? And is the only way to get the money back is that the Federal Govt. hugely overpays for the assets it buys , giving financial firms and there stockholders and executives a giant ... Read more...
